The Computing Curriculum at Nettleworth Infant and Nursery School

At Nettleworth Infant and Nursery School, we are masters of technology! We recognise digital technology play an ever-increasing pivotal role in our children’s lives.  We know that many of our children are effective technology consumers: our curriculum is organised to inspire and support the next generation of technology creators. Our aim is to promote this in a healthy, responsible and safe way, recognising that education is the best prevention to many issues currently faced. We intend for children to reflect upon and appreciate the impact computing has on their learning, development and well-being. Finding the right balance with technology and staying safe, is key to an effective education and a healthy lifestyle.

We develop cultural capital through the understanding of digital technologies and their role in society, as well as the ability to use them effectively, enabling the children to flourish and achieve within computing.

Nettleworth Infant and Nursery school is a unique and wonderful school, we have identified the need to shape and drive the curriculum based on our school vision and ethos. We have developed 6 key curriculum drivers which underpin the learning and experiences we undertake in all areas of school life. These run as a thread throughout each curriculum subject to ensure our curriculum is enriched and implemented to provide appropriate and ambitious curriculum opportunities for our children to SHINE.

Our computing curriculum is well sequenced and progressive throughout school to take into consideration the strands of computer systems and networks, creating media, programming and data and information. In order to support our children in their ability to know more and remember more there are opportunities to review the previous learning that has taken place so that we thrive.

A master of technology will leave Nettleworth Infant and Nursery School enjoying and appreciating technology in their education and lives. They will understand the balance between effective use of technology and being able to have a healthy, safe online experience. They will be prepared to encounter and thrive in the digital world, while being prepared for the risks this may present. We believe that the impact of our coherent computing curriculum is that children develop a lifelong love of technology, teachers have high expectations and quality evidence is presented through floor books and pupil voice.
