The History Curriculum at Nettleworth Infant and Nursery
At Nettleworth Infant and Nursery School, we are Historians! Our aim is to prepare our children for life in modern Britain and to foster an interest in the past. We will support our children to make sense of their own experiences and identity within their local community, Britain and the world. Our children will develop their understanding of cultural heritage as they learn about historical places, societies and cultures. We intend for children to know and discuss significant events in world history and to appreciate how things have changed over time. We develop cultural capital by working towards establishing meaningful interactions with an overarching aim to nurture, flourish and achieve!
Nettleworth Infant and Nursery school is a unique and wonderful school, we have identified the need to shape and drive the curriculum based on our school vision and ethos. We have developed 6 key curriculum drivers which underpin the learning and experiences we undertake in all areas of school life. These run as a thread throughout each curriculum subject to ensure our curriculum is enriched and implemented to provide appropriate and ambitious curriculum opportunities for our children to SHINE.
Our history curriculum is well sequenced and progressive throughout school to take into consideration the strands of changes within living memory, events beyond living memory, the lives of significant individuals and significant local history. In order to support our children in their ability to know more and remember more there are opportunities to review the previous learning that has taken place so that we thrive.
A Historian leaving Nettleworth Infant and Nursery School will be knowledgeable about the past and historical change. They will have a passion and a curiosity to question and investigate further and will be able to form and voice their own opinions. The impact of our history curriculum is that the children are increasingly aware of how historical events that have shaped their lives and the world they currently live in, including their local community. A child will be able to place themselves, the different events and people studied on a chronological timeline. We believe that the impact of our coherent history curriculum is that children develop a lifelong love of history, teachers have high expectations and quality evidence is presented through floor books and pupil voice.
